Busy Week

Busy Week for J13

This week was teacher appreciation week and boy did I feel the love! From coffee and muffins to chair massages and a delicious luncheon...we were all spoiled! The stinky notes signs were by far my favorite! I loved seeing the hallways and windows riddled with colorful mementos. Yesterday, I received my special class gift....more kids notes from the kids & two generous gift cards! I can't tell you how lucky I feel to be surrounded by such a wonderful group of families! I really appreciate your kindness! I love being your child's teacher and it makes me sad to think that the year is coming to a close.
Thank you, Mr. Longobardi, for being our guest reader and bringing so many amazing books!
We created window greenhouses today! Hopefully in a few weeks we will start to see the first signs of our bean seeds sprouting!

Chloe's Birthday

It's Chloe's birthday today & we were all surprised when she walked in wearing these snazzy glasses! Although I think I look like Ms. Frizzle in the Magic School Bus, I need these glasses in my life! Teaching little first graders is absolutely THE BEST! We have SO MUCH FUN!!!!

Happy St.Patty's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Howya (hi, hello)

Top of the Mornin to Ya

We've had a lot of fun celebrating St.Patrick's Day today! We're feeling jammy (lucky) and pulled our socks up (got to work) right away speaking leprechaun. Our morning meeting was like a hooley (party, celebration). Everybody was bloody (very) excited. Nobody was cheesed off (annoyed) or knackered (tired). We had a visit from a crazy leprechaun from Remington and we were pretty gobsmacked (surprised)! He seemed bloody manky (dirty). Luckily, it wasn't too cold out or lashing (heavily raining) so we went outside for recess....finally!!! After recess, we watched a flick about St.Patty's Day and now we're ending our day with a bloody good guest reader! Enjoy thhe rest of your day!

Thank you, Mr. Ojukwu!

Thank you, Mr. Ojukwu (Olivia's dad)

You always bring an interesting assortment of books and get the kids excited about reading! You are so animated and easy to listen to! They're mesmerized!

Plickers

Plickers

Bringing technology into the classroom

At a conference I went to a few weeks ago, I was introduced to the website, Plickers and was immediately hooked! We use technology a lot in J13....our interactive whiteboard, Elmo projector, my computer for fun apps, typing and brain breaks and I was eager to incorporate Plickers into our routine. According to the website, Plickers is "a powerfully simple tool that lets teachers collect real time formative assessment data without the need for student devices." This basically means that students can answer  multi-choice questions by holding a QR code that is specific to them and I can scan all of them instantly to gather info about what they've learned. I've used it for a few weeks now and it's been instrumental in helping me think about groupings of students and inform my daily instruction. The kids love that I can "see" their names pop up on the screen (on my phone) as they're scanned, but also feel safe since I don''t reveal how they answered. WOW! This is a powerful tool!
